So you’re attending some formal event and you need a hairstyle that is, to say the least, dramatic, and capable of leaving a lasting impact on your husband, boyfriend or (for all the single ladies) other single men in the event. And the truth is that many of your formal hairstyles were probably just that, exact replicas of styles that were worn on every special occasion for years stretching back into time. Why allow yourself to be somebody out of a time capsule? You can be a strikingly unique-looking woman with your updo (and multiple versions of such, must we add) by following the tips below, tips so easy even those who call themselves creatively challenged can pull ‘em off!
Here’s the thing, girls – you’ve got to have an eye for details if you want to change up your look. Why, it is possible to style your hair in a French twist without having to worry about looking the same on Monday AND Tuesday, simply by adding a little here and there to the style you want to rock! Observe:
Straighten instead of curl. You may have observed that lot of updos would involve a curling iron used to curl the free hair pieces. You can change your look simply by using a flat iron to sleek down these pieces instead of curling them up. You can even alternate using a crimping iron and flat iron to create a dramatic effect.
You may want to leave some free pieces. You can also experiment by leaving different pieces of your updo free. For example: try leaving a ½” section of hair around your complete hairline free from the updo. Then create a simple ponytail by pulling your hair up. Next, work on your free hair by weaving ½” sections of the free hair on top of your updo basket-weave style. Pin into place, and you’ve created a unique look with little effort.
It’s all about the accessories, girl! Accessorizing can sure elicit a lot of interest from the opposite sex, but you’ll want to keep it simple, such as using hair extensions of different colors or even ribbons. Simply insert small strands of hair or ribbon into your style to create splash of color and drama. You have the option of mixing and matching, either doing so with your dress for the day, or complementing the color of your hair with something natural.
Get flowery. As long as you don’t do anything extreme, you can accessorize by using flowers and inserting a dainty accessory into your updo to that end. Choose very small flowers and use them sparingly. If you do so in excess, you’ll be a walking flower stand and men will be buying flowers OFF you instead of FOR you! Accessories are there for a purpose – they are meant to complement your ‘do rather than BE your entire ‘do.
In addition to these ideas, there are many more that you can experiment with. You need not be excessively ornate or extravagant when trying to achieve that air of uniqueness – simplicity is beauty, so goes the old adage. Even if you aren’t exactly the creative or flashy type, you can give your updos that necessary injection of flair – if you’re single, the men will be all over you, and if you’re married, your man won’t be able to get enough of you!
