Welcome to the very first episode of the Young, Fast & Scientific Music Podcast. This episode isn’t necissarily a representation of a long term plan for this show. It’s more of just an opportunity for me to play some songs I enjoy and talk about some stuff that interests me; in this instance, plane crashes. So sit back and relax, pop this baby on and let me take you to a place that will have you screaming ‘oh yes!’ and ‘oh no!’ at the same time.
Here’s the track listing for this episode:
Brian Eno - Burning Airlines Give you so much more
Animal Collective - People
Archers of Loaf - Chumming the Ocean
The Castanets - You Are the Blood
Flaming Lips - Pilot Can At the Queer of God
Brainiac - Hot Seat Can’t Sit Down
Frog Eyes - Ship Destroyer
The Mae Shi - Heartbeeps
Shy Child - TV Tuner
Trans Am - Stereo Situation
Joy Division - Atmosphere
New Order - Dreams Never End
Chemical Brothers - Asleep From Day
Les Balayeurs Du Desert - Decollage
Hella - Movement 8: Earth’s First Evening Jimi Hendrix-less and Pissed

Cool. I know and like Eno, Joy Division/New Order, Flaming Lips, and Chemical Bros. This should be a good chance to hear some other bands that I might learn to like. Brainiac is an interesting name for a band, I wonder if they got their name from the Superman nemesis OR from a Star Wars customizable card game character?

great mix, I really liked Animal Collective. While listening to you explain your mix, I came up with a few themes for making a mix. After listening to a sampe of your musical tastes I bet you could come up with some good mixes for these:
Picnic in the desert.
Hunting a Unicorn.
Riding the elevator on that sweet mushroom
looking space station in Star Trek III-VI.
Big city nights with intrigue and espionage.
Saturday afternoon at Frank Sinatra’s Palm Springs house.

Hey Ian,
I might have to attempt one of those mixes. The ‘Riding the elevator on that sweet mushroom looking space station in Star Trek III-VI’ mix sounds particularily promising.

This music is WEEEEEEIIIIIIIRRRRRRRDDDD!
Seriously though, I did enjoy listening to it. I liked the third set the best, more laid back and less busy.

Hey Jay There has been some serious delays on my podcast,i’ll let you know when its up anyway, i was wondering a few things;
1. Would you ever do an audio podcast on Danielson? I’ve only got the Ships album, and i know you’re a big fan and i would love to hear some key tracks from there previous incarnations,Brother & Family etc.
2. Do you still spin records at the nite-club near you? Whats the kind of music you’d play there, do you have any set methods of Dj-ing, Did you have any mis-haps or funny stories from DJ-ing there? I’d like to hear your set list from that,it would be great even a podcasty thing?
3.Jonestown:Life and Death of Peoples Temple, I got it and thought it was great, but also before waiting for that to be released i downloaded a documentary that came out on TV, The History Channels ‘Jonestown: A Paradise Lost’ - Did you see it?it also had interviews with ex-members including Jim Jones Jr. and had dramatized reconstructions which I liked even if it did scream “Made for Tv”
4. Also speaking of paradise lost, whats that about again?I remember hearing you mention that a few times on filmjunk podcast, there was Paradise Lost 1 & 2?Documentaries?
I also presume it has nothing to do with a film thats coming out in cinemas soon with the same name.
Oh Great Music Vid Too-I’ve seen it before on youtube, wow i didn’t know you were that close to it being used as an official video, that would of been great!
All The Best Steve

Hey Steve,
Answer a few of your questions here on the latest Film Junk podcast. Anyways, I will try and get some good Danielson selections in my next podcast. I’m just trying to find some time to put it together, takes much longer than i’d expected.
